Privacy & Security

Your money records, kept private by design

LumynFi is a privacy-first personal finance app. You enter your own numbers, there's no bank login required, sensitive fields are encrypted at rest, and your data is never sold. Private finances should stay private — so we built the app that way from the start.

Most money apps ask you to hand over your online-banking credentials so they can read your accounts for you. LumynFi takes the opposite approach. It is a personal finance management app you fill in yourself: you type in your balances, log your expenses, and organize your bills — and nothing ever reaches into your bank to do it for you. That single design choice changes everything about how your information is handled, because the most private data is the data an app never collects in the first place.

This page explains, plainly, how LumynFi treats your financial privacy and security. We avoid jargon and we avoid promises we can't keep. What you'll find here is a measured, honest account of how a private expense tracker can give you a clear picture of your money without asking for the keys to your bank — and what we do to keep the records you do enter safe.

Privacy first, by the way it's built

LumynFi's privacy posture isn't a setting you switch on or a policy bolted onto the side. It comes from how the app works. Here are the foundations:

  • No bank login required — you enter your own balances and transactions. LumynFi never asks you to connect, link, or log into your bank, and it cannot move money.
  • Your data is isolated to your account — everything you record is scoped to your user and kept separate from every other user's data.
  • Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest — the private details you store are protected when saved, not left lying around in plain text.
  • Never sold — LumynFi does not sell your data. Your records exist to serve you, not to be packaged up for anyone else.

Why "no bank login" is the privacy feature that matters most

When an app links to your bank, it typically needs broad, ongoing read access to your accounts, often through a third-party data aggregator sitting in the middle. That means your transaction history flows through systems you didn't choose and can't see. LumynFi sidesteps all of it. Because you enter the numbers yourself, there's no aggregator, no stored banking connection, and no silent stream of your activity leaving your control. You decide exactly what to record and what to leave out.

Why it helps

No banking credentials, ever

LumynFi will never ask for your online-banking username or password, your card's PIN or CVV, or any security code. It doesn't need them, and it doesn't store them. If anything ever requests those, it isn't us.

You choose what's recorded

Because you enter your own data, you're in charge of the level of detail. Track everything, or just the categories you care about. Minimal data by choice is a privacy advantage built right into how the app works.

Encrypted where it counts

Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest, so the private details you save are protected on disk rather than stored as readable text. Encrypted daily backups keep your records safe without exposing them.

Your data is yours, and stays yours

LumynFi never sells your data. There's no business model that depends on monetizing your financial life — the app is here to help you organize your money and keep clear records, full stop.

Real-life use cases

1

You want a clear money picture without exposing your bank

You'd like budgeting and expense tracking, but you're not comfortable handing your banking login to an app. With LumynFi you type in your own figures, so you get organized records and a real overview while your bank credentials never leave your bank.

2

You share a device or live a public-facing life

Whether you share a household computer or simply value discretion, a private expense tracker that keeps your data isolated to your own account — and encrypts the sensitive parts — lets you keep personal finances personal.

3

You're tired of apps that sell or share your activity

If you've grown wary of free tools that quietly monetize your data, LumynFi is refreshingly simple: your records are for you, never sold, and not fed into someone else's profile of your spending.

What LumynFi will never ask you for

This is worth stating clearly, because it's both a security rule and a promise. LumynFi is not a bank and is not connected to your bank, so there is never a reason for it to request the credentials that protect your real accounts.

  • Your online-banking username or password.
  • Your debit or credit card PIN.
  • Your card's CVV or security code.
  • One-time passcodes or two-factor codes from your bank.
  • Any other banking authentication or login detail.

If you ever see a message, email, or screen claiming to be LumynFi and asking for any of the above, treat it as a warning sign — it is not coming from us. The only thing LumynFi needs is the financial information you choose to type in yourself: balances, amounts, dates, names, and categories that you control.

How your data is kept safe

Keeping your records private isn't just about what we don't collect — it's also about protecting what you do choose to store. LumynFi handles that in a few straightforward, honest ways:

Isolated to your account

Every entry you make — an account balance, an expense, a bill, a note — is tied to your user and kept separate from everyone else's. Your data doesn't mingle with other people's, and the app is designed so that you see your records and only your records.

Encrypted at rest

Sensitive fields are encrypted when stored, so they're not sitting in plain, readable text on disk. We pair that with encrypted daily backups, which means your information is protected even in the copies kept for safekeeping. We deliberately describe this in plain terms rather than dressing it up — the point is simply that the private parts of your records are protected at rest.

Only as much data as you give

Because you enter your own numbers, LumynFi holds only what you decide to record. There's no background harvesting of your transactions and no hidden data stream from your bank. Less collected means less to protect and less that could ever be exposed — minimal data is privacy in practice, not just in principle.

The numbers are yours — the AI only narrates them

LumynFi includes an optional AI helper that can describe what's happening in your finances in plain language — for example, summarizing where your spending went this month. It's useful, and it's also carefully limited.

Every financial figure in LumynFi is calculated in code from the data you entered. The AI does not compute your balances and it cannot move, send, or change money — it simply narrates the numbers the app has already worked out. So the insights stay grounded in your own records, and the AI never has any ability to act on your accounts. If you'd rather not use it at all, the core tracking, budgeting, and record-keeping all work perfectly well on their own.

Frequently asked questions

Does LumynFi connect to my bank?

No. LumynFi is a private expense tracker with no bank login required. You enter your balances and transactions yourself, so there's no banking connection and no third-party aggregator reading your accounts.

Will LumynFi ever ask for my bank password or card PIN?

Never. LumynFi does not ask for your online-banking username or password, your card's PIN or CVV, or any one-time security code. It doesn't need them and doesn't store them. If anything claims to be LumynFi and requests those, it isn't us.

Is my data encrypted?

Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest, so the private details you store are protected on disk rather than kept as readable text. Encrypted daily backups keep those records safe as well.

Do you sell my data?

No. LumynFi never sells your data. Your records exist to help you organize your money and keep clear records — they're not packaged up or sold to anyone.

Can the AI assistant move my money or see my bank?

No. The optional AI only narrates figures that LumynFi has already calculated from the data you entered. It cannot move money, and since there's no bank connection, it has nothing to reach into.

Is my data kept separate from other users?

Yes. Everything you record is scoped to your own account and isolated from every other user's data, so you see your records and only your records.

Privacy shouldn't be a premium add-on or a buried setting — it should be the way a finance app works from the ground up. LumynFi keeps your records private because it never asks for your bank login, isolates your data to your own account, encrypts the sensitive parts at rest, and never sells what you store. You decide what to track, the numbers stay yours, and the optional AI only describes them. That's a secure expense tracker built on a simple idea: your financial life is yours to keep.
